Graduating during a Global Pandemic

One of the biggest milestones in my life came to fruition in 2020, aka the Year of COVID-19. It seemed too long ago that everyone had to take a pause and adjust to the new normal — staying at home. It was really a bummer to not be able to come to the office during my internship, but to be honest, I was eager to finish it so that I can join the corporate world as a graduate.

Of course, a part of me still wishes that I had (and in the future would have) the chance to experience the traditional graduation with the cap and gown and going up the stage. I have been waiting for this for so long, that I wanted to do it right. I was disappointed at first, but the excitement of applying for jobs and finally starting my own life took my mind off my negative feelings.

I guess it really helps seeing things in a different perspective. While I was not able to celebrate my graduation wearing my toga, earning my degree and landing my dream job was everything I asked for. Anything else seemed trivial. One thing’s for sure, no matter how or where or when I was able to achieve this milestone, it is a major achievement for me and is one thing that I am proud of. To all the people who had virtual commencement exercises like me, cheer up! There will be other opportunities for us to celebrate in the future. For now, we shall focus on building our careers. And also, congratulations to us, Class of 2020!
